Welcome to Fiction & Friction
Meet the Founder

Hi, I’m Britt — the face behind Fiction & Friction, your go-to indie romance bookstore (formerly known as Off the Book Pages).
I’m a queer mum living with multiple chronic pain conditions, a lifelong book lover, and the proud owner of a romance bookstore built on passion, community, and a deep love for indie authors.
How it all Started
Fiction & Friction began as a hobby — creating handmade bookish merch — but it didn’t stay small for long. After months of planning and chatting with some incredible indie authors, the online store officially launched on August 31st, 2020.
Since then, we've grown beyond expectations. We’ve just moved into our fourth space, and for the first time, it truly feels like home.
Falling in Love with Indie Romance
My journey into indie books began in 2014, and I’ve never looked back. I quickly realized I’d found my passion and my people. Since then, I’ve attended many indie driven book events across Australia, met incredible authors, and connected with readers who share the same love of indie romance books.
Why I Started This Store
Like many indie romance fans, I struggled to find the books I wanted. Amazon took forever, packaging was careless, and books often arrived damaged. Direct-from-author options weren’t always available and if you could find them in some bookstores they were so expensive.
That’s when I thought: Could I create something? Something just for indie readers?
The answer was yes — and the response from both authors and readers was incredible.
Where Are We Now
Today, Fiction & Friction stocks thousands of books from hundreds of indie authors. What started as a dream is now a thriving, one-of-a-kind bookstore with a loyal, passionate community of readers.
We’re proud to say Fiction & Friction was the first indie romance bookstore of its kind — and that will also be one of my greatest achievements.
Thank You for Supporting Indie
Fiction & Friction is more than just a bookstore — it’s a community. Whether you’re new to the indie world or a long-time fan, I’m so glad you’re here.
Thank you for supporting small.
Thank you for supporting indie.
